March 11 , 2004 - "Vioxx Risks Continue to Worry Heart Specialists"
A study is now suggesting that taking both Vioxx and high blood pressure medication will double the risks of suffering a heart attack. When taking into account other factors that can increase the risk of a heart attack, including age, medical history, as well as other variables, Vioxx was the only drug that was shown to increase the risk of heart attack, though it was noted the risk was only significant amongst patients also using high blood pressure medication.
The Journal of the American Medical Association reported in 2001 that Vioxx and Celebrex, a competing arthritis drug, increased the risk of suffering a heart attack twice as much as patients taking the arthritis drug naproxen.
